Salon Night: Faces: Weaving Indian Jewish Narrative

Siona Benjamin, a renowned New York-based painter originally from Bombay, will discuss her Fulbright fellowship in India and how her project continues to inform her artwork. Her work reflects her background being raised Jewish in a predominantly Hindu and Muslim India. Her paintings combine the imagery of her past with her experiences in America today, creating a mosaic of Indian miniature paintings and Sephardic icons and styles. Sponsored by the Young Adult Division of the Jewish Federation of Colorado and the Institute of International Education.

The Longmont Shabbat Group is a community-based Jewish group that holds informal Jewish Sabbath services on the third Friday of every month in Longmont. The services include lighting Shabbat candles, blessing the wine, blessing the challah, and informal readings. Oneg Shabbat (food and socializing) follows each service. A leading expert on Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism, Goldberg is well known for his appearances on shows such as the Colbert Report, Meet the Press and NPR. He has been named twice to the "Forward 50" and is a recipient of the National Magazine Award for Reporting. He was named by a Columbia Journalism Review editor as the most influential journalist/blogger on matters related to Israel. In addition to his writing and speaking about Israel, Jeffrey Goldberg was one of four writers invited to write commentaries in Jonathan Safran Foer's and Nathan Englander's New American Haggadah.
