BABY/TODDLER PLAYGROUPS

The purpose of the JCC’s south expansion is to provide accessible opportunities for Jewish and interfaith families who reside in South Metro Denver to establish a meaningful connection with the Jewish community, strengthen their Jewish identity, and build relationships with other Jewish families and organizations in the greater Denver Jewish community. The JCC hopes to broaden its presence and build on the success of the Center’s Family Programs primarily in response to the 2007 Metro Denver/Boulder Jewish Community Study, as well as supplementary data collection, which indicates ongoing population growth of Jewish and interfaith families in the South Metro Area. In fall 2010 the JCC received a generous grant from Rose Community Foundation to help fund these efforts. The JCC is thrilled to have an opportunity to offer family, teen and day camp programming in 2011. How can the JCC help you connect? What programs are of interest to you?

Adventure of the Spirit: Jewish Meditation

"We follow our breath in meditation, not to get better at following our breath, but rather, when we get up, to get better at following our life.”

Mediation has been a spiritual practice used by Jews and others for centuries to “wake up.” Meditation practice not only helps us to have sharper attention and focus in our daily lives, it helps us to awaken to the higher reality behind our surface awareness, that adonai echad…. God is the ultimate unity… and ein od milvado… there is nothing but God. From such a higher awareness or experience, prayer is no longer a challenging attempt to lift words off the page. From this connected place, prayer flows of its own accord from our hearts (tefillat she b’lev). Compassion naturally arises. Joy increases.

SPECIAL INTEREST

Bridging popular culture and traditional Jewish values. With cocktails.
This is a group of film enthusiasts (singles and couples) in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, who enjoy watching and discussing intriguing films outside the mainstream, big Hollywood blockbuster movies. We'll be focused on seeing independent films, foreign films, documentaries, as well as participating in cinema-related local events like the Denver Film Festival, Film On The Rocks, Denver Movies In The Park, and anything else interesting and unique that catches our imaginations (I am open to suggestions). I would like to include a discussion component to the group--so we will have an opportunity to get together for drinks/coffee/delicious snacks after the movie for a discussion (not mandatory).
Welcome to Shalom Single Parents! This is a unique group for single parents in their 30's and 40's who want to share a meaningful social, spiritual, and fun experience. This group's focus is not on those who are in the process of separating or divorcing. Instead, our focus is on those people who have already established single parent-hood. The group will offer members a variety of activities, ranging from Friday night Shabbat dinners with children to singles events. This group understands what it means to be a parent and also understands what it means to be a single person. This is not a support group. Our intent is to offer other like-minded parents the opportunity to make friendships, get together, and share the joys of parenthood.

What's In A Name?

In the Torah, G-d speaks to Moses through the burning bush , asking him where he is. Moses responds: Hineini - Here I am. With the same dedication to Jewish life, this group was created. The word Hineini reminds us that we live in the here and now. Life is about creating opportunities in the present. Together we enhance our experience as young Jews in Denver , right now!

What We Aren't...

Hineni is not exclusive to members of Temple Emanuel, though many of our members are affiliated with the synagogue. We do not require any membership fees or any commitment on the part of our membership. We're simply here to enhance your Jewish experience.
Here at The Jewish Experience we Make Judaism Meaningful.??By offering exciting social and educational programs to the Denver metro Jewish community, we give people the opportunity to learn about and enjoy our fabulously rich heritage.

Need a mezuzah? We make housecalls! We’ll bring our Mezuzah toolbox over to your home to help you put a little holiness and protection on your doorpost.

Need a teacher? We teach Chavurahs. If you have a chavurah and would appreciate a fascinating discussion on any Jewish topic of your choice, led by an experienced educator, call us. We’ll even suggest a few great topics if you like. Or , if you don’t have a chavurah, we’ll help you put one together.

Hungry? We bake Challah. Gather five of your friends and we’ll come to your kitchen to teach you the practical and spiritual elements of making this delicious Jewish holy-bread.

Interested? We send Speakers. Our recognized staff of Rabbis and teachers are available for the community. Add a little thought-provoking Jewish learning to your next meeting, simchah or function.

VOLUNTEERING

As you know, GesherCity is putting together a committee to help take us to the next level and we are hoping you will be part of this initiative.

GesherCity launched its Denver/Boulder website on April 2nd 2008 and has continued to grow and position itself as the central point of the Jewish community. Over the past 11 months GesherCity has operated through word of mouth/Viral marketing alone. It is now time to take GesherCity up a notch to help it reach its full potential.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about seeing the next generation of our Jewish community thrive. Each of you has something different to offer to this group and I am eager to hear your thoughts and suggestions. I am not asking for your commitment to this group sight unseen, but would appreciate it if you would attend the first meeting to determine if this is a good fit for you.

The committee will work on four main aspects of GesherCity:
Marketing and PR- to raise awareness about GesherCity among young Jewish adults in the Denver/Boulder areas. This includes helping us to develop and implement a creative platform, ensuring that the messaging is on target, and media placement.
Spreading the Word- This includes attending a few events at different organizations in the capacity of representing GesherCity and being an ambassador for GesherCity when you meet other young adults who are looking to get connected to the Jewish community.
Community Relations- The community at large needs and organizations in particular need further encouragement to participate in the free resources GesherCity has to offer. Many organizations are still asking for the resources that GesherCity provides, and we need to remind them that we are here and available to help them address their missions and serve their constituents.
Event Planning- We need to work as a team to learn what community events are well received and successful, and then help with planning, promoting and running these events. This includes helping to determine what events GesherCity should co-sponsor.

If you would like be be a part of this planning committee be sure to contact Lisa Walko ASAP LWALKO@jccdenver.org
