After fielding thousands of calls and emails, we realized many people are seeking the same information. We comprised this list of Frequently Asked Questions and answers to fill that need:
And if you still have questions, the just Ask GesherCity!
1. GesherCity's mission is to bridge young adults to the Jewish Community - so what do you consider a Young Adult?
We let you decide. We have members from age 22 to 39, and our average age is 27. The resources that we provide are designed to connect our members to many programs, organizations and community-wide oppportunities which focus on the needs of young adults. But many GesherCity participants in their late 30s and early 40s have had positive GesherCity experiences as recipients of information and resources, and as volunteers who work hard helping GesherCity achieve its mission.
We can also help to connect you to organizations in the community that focus on older Jewish singles, couples, young families, etc. Consult the Events Calendar and Community Resource pages for information on a variety of groups, or contact your local GesherCity chapter directly!
2. There are already other young adult programs in our community. Is GesherCity just competing with these?
Absolutely not! GesherCity in no way wants to compete with any other Jewish organization. In fact, our goal is to be a portal, a single point of entry to connect people to the vast array of different organizations in the community and help each member find exactly what they need. GesherCity does this by providing them them with access to information and resources, through our Web site, Resource Guide, our weekly Enews newsletter and frequent infosessions. If there are apparent needs in a community, we can help develop programming to fit these, but only if there is not an existing organization already providing a similar service.
3. How does GesherCity add value to the community?
- GesherCity builds community among one of the hardest demographics to reach: young adults. We approach this in multiple ways, creating both virtual and real-life communities, both locally and nationally.
- We energize and empower young adults to build their own place in the community. Instead of merely receiving information, GesherCity provides young adults with the means to get involved and build the kind of community they want.
- GesherCity has a highly successful and flexible organizational model of young adult services and an organizational structure that provides leadership opportunities and training.
- Because we are a volunteer-driven organization GesherCity is customer-responsive and relatively low-cost.
- GesherCity national Website portal has the most comprehensive community information available, designed specifically to appeal to young adults.
- Our Cluster Program and GesherCity @events are especially effective at removing obstacles to meeting people and becoming involved in the community.
- GesherCity provides free targeted marketing for every Jewish organization in the community.
- We link the local community to a national GesherCity network of young adults.
- GesherCity brings young adults into the community, which builds Jewish continuity and invests in our future.
