GesherCity’s mission is to bridge young adults to the Jewish community by providing Acess to Personal Networks and Information Resources. GesherCity, a non-profit organization, offers networked technology, methodologies, brand marketing, and best practices to Jewish communities to further enhance their young adult programs. We work with existing programs of local institutions and/or help communities develop new initiatives that successfully connect young adults (primarily in their early 20’s and 30’s) to the Jewish community.
Founded in 1998 as Project Gesher in Boston, the name GesherCity comes from the Hebrew word for bridge, combined with "City", which works to define us as the bridge to the Jewish community. The initiative originally began as a response to young adults who had recently moved to Boston and attempted to gain access to the Jewish community. They found that there was no central point of contact and that no central organization acted as the entry point to the community. Although an amazing array of opportunities existed in the local Jewish community, it was a challenge to learn of them and meet the people to help get connected to them. Thus, a group of young adults recognized the need to create a clearing-house of information that would also provide a means for young adults to meet, mingle and network both socially and professionally.
