BABY/TODDLER PLAYGROUPS

Meet one Sunday a month at different locations for an activity with Dads and their children in order to give mom a few hours off.

Places of interest: The Zoo, Parks, The Beach, The JCC Pool
Please offer any and all ideas!
Bring your babies and/or toddlers under 5 years to our home for a playdate. The mommies will together enjoy some adult company (and perhaps some tea) while the children play without a care in the world.

Group meets every 1st Saturday of the month from 2 to 4pm at Alex Konikoff's home.

FOOD/DINING

Are you interested in learning how to cook à la kosher? Come learn how to bake Challah, roll kosher sushi, and much much more. This is an interactive and hands-on group focussed on good food and good company.

We don't want too many cooks in the kitchen, so space is limited.

PROFESSIONALS/NETWORKING

Come educate and be educated, enlighten and be enlightened with respect to finance, accounting and key principles of success as it relates to business. With solid participation during our book readings, games and speakers us like-minded people will help each other stay on track and aim for the stars!

RELIGIOUS/EDUCATIONAL

Learn and share ideas about Jewish mysticism and how they are treated in the original sources. Learn how notions of Jewish mysticism can benefit us and how to apply them practically in our everyday lives.

This group will meet at Elliot's Coffee Grounds, starting the 2nd Thursday night in January, Janaury 10th at 7pm.
Take leap of faith and learn about anything that interests you within the realm of Judaism. From the Hebrew language to Jewish philosophy, Jewish texts to advanced Torah study, there is something for everyone! Once you decide what you want to learn, you will be matched with a partner to learn about that subject on a weekly basis.

This group meets every Wednesday night at 7pm at B'nai Israel synagogue or within your home or that of your partner. You do not need to be a member of B'nai Israel to participate.

SOCIAL

Join me and my puggle, Ruby, for monthly doggie playdates. We'll find a new dog park each month.
Are you a movie fan? Well, grab your popcorn and sign up! This group will meet once a month at a movie theater in the Norfolk/VA Beach area to catch a movie together. We'll try to hit most of the big movies but maybe a week or two after they come out to avoid the crowds. During a slow movie month, we may try something different geared towards movie fans.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Genocide is the systematic and planned extermination of an entire national, racial, political, or ethnic group. It is occurring right now...Tidewater Against Genocide (TAG) works to mobilize the young Jewish adults in our synagogues, schools, and the local community to combat the genocide and other egregious violations of human rights in the Sudan. To reach out to our local, national and world leaders to advocate for a change in policy. It is our mission to educate others of the ongoing atrocities and to help Jews to live up to our own words of "Never Again".

SPORTS/OUTDOORS

Come join your fellow YAD'ians and others for rounds of golf....
Like to run? Join me for a bi-monthly run on Sundays. We'll have fun and get fit all at once.
This group goes to different areas in the Tidewater area to hike beaches, parks and various natural surroundings. The group will also take occasional trips to go white-water rafting and other inspiring locations. While the emphasis will be on fun and socializaing, there will also be casual inspiring Jewish content added to the trips as well. All trips will have kosher food and will be on Sundays.

The first date will be Sunday, March 2nd.
The grup will meet once per month, usually on the first Sunday of the month unless it conflicts with a Jewish holiday.
Interested in the occasional trip out to York River State Park and other nearby spots for some mountain biking? No experience or common sense necessary. Just bring your mountain bike and a helmet.
Are you interested in Tennis?

All skill levels are invited to participate in weekend tennis outings at local public tennis courts. Simple volleying, match play or even possible USTA competition. COme one and all...just bring your rackets and balls.

VOLUNTEERING

YAD's social justice group. Come out and help us help others and feel good doing it. We help our community: Jewish Family Service, Beth Sholom Home, Community Relations Council, Hillel, and other organizations/agencies by volunteering at some of their most important events.
Chevra Thelim is a historical Orthodox Synagogue located on Effingham St in Portsmouth. the building dates back to 1921 an is constructed in the Eastern European tradition with the Bimah located in the center of the Shul. After decades of use, the congregation left and the temple fell into disrepair and was boarded up. A local business lady by the name of Zelma Rivin in the early 2000s started a volunteer organization "Friends of Chevra T'helim" to restore the Shul to it's former beauty and to turn it into a Jewish Cultural Center/Museum.

The project that I am working on is the restoration of the outside grounds and landscaping. We need volunteers to help with this. Starting on 1 June, and every Sunday throughout June and July (except on rain days) I will be out there 11-4. Volunteers need to bring any gardening tools they can muster, sunblock, bottled water, and food (especially if they are vegan, vegegtarian or kosher). I'll be bringing extra shovels and tools but if folks can bring some tools that would be great... Chevra T'helim is located on 607 Effingham St; after the County St stoplight (between County St and King St) .

Please join us.

Clusters
What is a "Cluster"?

A Cluster is a group of individuals, led by a volunteer Cluster coordinator ("CC"), which gives people the opportunity to meet other people with similar interests in a welcoming environment. Clusters help people who are new in town, or new to the Jewish community, interact in an intimate, informal atmosphere.

Clusters are theme based - by geographic location, profession, hobby, interest, etc. - and are limited only by your creativity. On your initial sign up, you can join only one Cluster, however, if there are other Clusters that you find interesting, you can log out and re-sign in to join other Clusters. Please limit the Clusters you join only to one you will actively participate in, as space in Clusters is limited. Clusters last for four to six months. At that time, you will be able to sign up for a new Cluster or start one of your own.

Be a Cluster Coordinator ("CC")!

If you don't see a cluster that grabs you...start your own! We will help you get started and all you need is an email address and the desire to meet others like yourself. You may be wondering about the time commitment associated with becoming a CC. It should take 4 to 6 hours per month on average. This time would be dedicated to a "welcome call" to Cluster members, emails about your "Cluster get-together" or other Cluster-related events, and time planning your monthly Cluster get-together. If you're interested in becoming a CC, please click below and fill out the required fields. Someone will follow up with you shortly!

I'm interested in starting a cluster!
